Creating a shared garden within the Césaire neighbourhood

Sustainable overseas territories contest

2nd Prize: Cayenne, Guyana

The first shared garden in the town of Cayenne will be created on a 3300-square-metre plot within the Césaire neighbourhood. The aim of this garden is to become a space for sharing and experimenting with agricultural and environmental practices, encouraging residents to improve their diet and consume local seasonal fruit and vegetables. This place also sets out to foster intergenerational social links and to improve the quality of life of its users, most of them coming from priority neighbourhoods nearby. The project, which was designed after a broad local consultation, is part of a proactive process of sustainable development carried out by the city’s Urban Ecology and Sustainable Development hub, among others.
