The Lot-et-Garonne eco-action, entitled “47 on our plates”, is a pooled food procurement group at the departmental scale which organizes a local supply for catering in secondary schools. This eco-action creates the right conditions for local producers to supply the collective catering market, promoting the creation of a circular, solidary and responsible economy, combatting food waste and leading a public health policy. The project is carried out in partnership with the agricultural production sectors, head teachers and managers, as well as the executive management of national education’s departmental services.
After just 2 years of operation, the 955 pupils can now enjoy a supply made up of 100% local fresh products whose traceability is guaranteed (except for exotic products). Food waste is down by 60%, i.e. a saving of more than 500 000 euros, which has been reinjected onto children’s plates through quality products.
The department would like to extend this programme to retirement homes, children’s social care homes, agricultural high schools and municipalities willing to join.
