CORFO, the government agency responsible for promoting entrepreneurship, innovation and competitiveness in Chile, has asked Tractebel (ENGIE Group) to develop a 100% renewable systemic energy vision for the northern regions of Antofagasta and Atacama.
Tractebel's approach was based on the "backcasting" method, which involves imagining future successes, and from this vision, to organise the project steps.
The advantage of this approach is that it takes into account future conditions, including global warming.
Tractebel has worked on various axes to design this systemic vision of renewable energy in Chile:
• Development of a medium- and long-term renewable green vision for northern Chile,
• Performance of the energy system taken under variable hydrological conditions,
• Designing a transition to 100% renewable energy including relevant performance indicators,
• Opportunities/identification for developing a hydrogen-based economy, within the context of 100% renewable energy.
