“Grenelle des Mobilités” in the Bordeaux metropolitan area

A shared feeling in the Bordeaux metropolitan area is the need to change the mobility model.

Faced with this fact, the main players in mobility policies (the four local authorities and the State) decided in 2012 to launch the "Grenelle Metropolitan Mobility" initiative, an original approach to debate and co-construction involving representatives of the State and regional authorities, employers, employees, expert unions and user associations.

A total of 120 participants met in different working groups. Within this configuration, each partner had to be represented at all meetings by the same person: the process of co-building proposals for actions was also a process of joint learning.

All this work resulted in the formulation of 17 measures for fluid, reasoned and regulated mobility.

In 2018, during the mid-term review for implementing the charter's actions, it was decided to restart 6 priority projects. Each of these projects will be led by an elected official from the metropolis to allow faster progress in implementation.

  • Project 1/ Cars done differently, car-pooling, smart bypass.
  • Project 2/ Access to jobs, lifestyle and work patterns.
  • Project 3/ Universal pedestrian mobility and the school run without cars.
  • Project 4/ Great metropolitan avenues.
  • Project 5/ Urban deliveries.
  • Project 6/ Supra-metropolitan public transport network.
